IC Information:
Name: Turanga Leela (mutant names have the surname first, so western order would be Leela Turanga)
Fandom: Futurama
Timeline: Ending of "Into The Wild Green Yonder", just after they go through the wormhole
Age: Late twenties
Appearance: Leela is a well built woman who usually wears a tank top and yoga pants. She has purple hair, styled in a ponytail. Her huge boots make her look cool but have the tragic side effect of causing her to develop occasional bouts of sweaty boot rash. Oh, and she has one huge eye, but that's not nearly as important.

Abilities:
Leela doesn't have any supernatural abilities, and all there is to speak of is her talent for martial arts and inexplicable ability to pilot a spaceship despite being a cyclops. There are two things that should be considered, however: The first is her wrist-a-ma-jig, wrist thingy, or as she calls it, "this thing I wear on my wrist". It's pretty much a deus ex machina machine that can do anything from fire lasers to function like an internet-connected smartphone. Also, it has Tetris, and who doesn't love Tetris? Nobody, that's who. I am so good at Tetris, you guys.

The other factor that should be accounted for is that Leela is a mutant. She is mostly identical to a normal human, besides the one eye, elbow talons (no worries there, though, she trims them), and increased immunity to diseases. All mutants have this increased immunity because they are forced to live in the sewers, which obviously makes them more exposed to filth and disease -- and, as a result, more resistant to it.

Personality:
Leela is generally a good person. She is kind, especially to animals and small children, she is a determined hard worker, and she is very intelligent. However, she often feels pensive about showing her true colors in a situation where she thinks it would make her look bad. Having spent her childhood bullied, she feels that how she appears to other people is very important. She's not quick to admit her flaws, for example, she'll try to seem fearless even when she's terrified, and she can be openly condescending about people she likes if she feels associating with them too much would embarrassed her in a specific situation. This might make her come across as cold or uncaring. When she's alone with people she feels comfortable around, however, she doesn't feel the need to put up this mask of confidence, and is much nicer, though assertive.

Leela generally describes herself as not at all impulsive. She thinks things through when others don't, and is often a rational and logical foil to her friends. On the other hand, she is a perfectionist, and always have to win her battles. When she gets worked up into a rage and is desperate to come out of a difficult situation victoriously, she acts much more rashly and impulsively. This doesn't tend to end up well for her, considering her mind is only clear outside of particularly stressful situations. Still, she likes to take charge and maintain a role as the smart, rational one, around both strangers and her friends. She shows all the signs of being a leader, but that doesn't mean she's always the best one.

History:
Leela was born in the sewers of New New York in the 2970s. Upon her birth, she was declared the least mutated mutant ever born, with her only noticeable mutation being her one eye. Because of this, her parents decided to give her up so she could live a life on the surface under the guise of her being an alien, instead of being exiled to the sewers, as mutants were required by law to be. They left her on the steps of an orphanarium on the surface, along with a note written in alien language to hide her true origins.

It worked, and Leela was raised in the orphanarium. Though she didn't have to face the oppression mutants in New New York were subjected too, her childhood was mostly unhappy. She was teased for her one eye, and felt outcast because of it, especially because she was unsure of where she came from. Leela believed she was an alien well into adulthood, and in addition to that, believed she was the only remaining member of her species.

This lack of understanding about her past drove her life as an adult in two ways. She was lonely and desperate to find her people, or at least people who would accept her despite her supposed deformity. But she was also determined to show that she is a determined, hard working, and ass kicking woman.

On New Years Eve 2999, Leela's life was in a bit of a slump. Suck in a cryogenics lab job which she hated and without any close friends, things oddly turned around when she met a recently unfrozen man named Philip J. Fry. Fry was stubborn at excepting Leela's orientation, specifically, he refused to have a standard career chip implanted. He ran off before she could finish the job. Once she found him, in the ruins of Old New York, she sympathized with his proclaimed loneliness and lack of direction and decided not to bring him back to the lab. Instead, they, along with Fry's new robot friend, Bender, found Fry's great-great-etc. nephew, Professor Hubert Farnsworth. By a streak of luck, the professor needed crew member for his intergalactic delivery company, and quickly hired the trio. Leela was appointed captain of the Planet Express ship. On her adventures in space, she met new friends, new enemies, and found her pet, Nibbler, whose poop was used as fuel for the ship (he excretes pure dark matter, each pound of which weighs over a thousand pounds).

Leela's life stabilized after she found new friends in Planet Express. But despite her growing security and comfort in her life, her new job as a spaceship captain only fueled her desire to find the truth of her origin. Although there were a few at first promising finds on distant planets, Leela couldn't find her people so matter how far she went -- and her loneliness and frustration grew. She had constant support from Fry and Bender, her closest friends, but something in her sense of self was missing, and she desperately wanted to find it.

That changed the day she and her friends accidentally found themselves in the sewers of New New York, the home of the city's mutant population. They discovered a house with a shrine to Leela, which Leela immediately thought was made by a stalker. When she found the two mutants that lived there, she ran after them, demanding them to tell her how they knew so much about her. In her rage, she decided these mutants must have killed her parents, and charged up her raygun... Until the hooded couple's faces were revealed, and she noticed they each had a single, large eye. Leela had found her parents and discovered the truth of who she really was, and she found these answers in a place she never dared to look.

Though far from perfect, Leela's life became more comfortable after she established a relationship with her parents. Her biggest day to day problems became putting up with the ridiculously dangerous missions the Planet Express crew was sent on and her extremely confusing not-a-romantic-relationship with Fry.

The last thing she will remember is the Planet Express ship flying through a wormhole that could either lead her back to earth, to a distant planet, or kill her. And she just told Fry that she loves him and they kissed, but that's something she's...less likely to admit.

Roleplay Sample - Log:
Leela would be the first to admit this was just another day at the office.

Sure, the "office" was a planet called Cannibalon, and her work was delivering supplies that could be used to barbeque her if the inhabitants felt like it. But she expected as much from this job.

That doesn't mean she liked it, not by any means. She decided the best course of action to defend herself from hungry locals while her crew made the delivery was to introduce herself to everybody she came across.

"Hello," she said as she pulled aside a passerby on the street. "We're here to make a delivery to this restaurant. Could we get some directions?"

Without waiting for an excuse to do so, she narrowed her eye at the stranger and spoke in a grim tone. "Also, I'm not a human. See the one eye? Just so we're clear on that subject."

Unfortunately for her, the locals did not take kindly to visitors. And unfortunately for her crew, Leela never said they weren't human.

It was a long, long day.
Roleplay Sample - Journal:
[Upon waking up in the medical center, Leela immediately found her belongings and got the hell out of there without a word. So, she's in a hall, addressing the network sternly.]
Planet Express! Either the wormhole led to the interior of another ship or we've been captured. As your captain, I'll take the initiative in getting us out of here. Professor, this is probably considered your fault, so I'm gonna have to kick your ass. Fry, we'll talk about it later, and please tell me you found your clothes.

Anyone who is not part of the Planet Express crew, explain what the hell is going on. Where is your captain?

This game includes horrible mental and physical torture of your character. After reading the rules/faq for clarification, how do you expect your character to handle this and continue to function? LEELA DON'T TAKE NO SHIT FROM NOBODY Leela is strong willed, stubborn, and pretty much paid to be put through strange kinds of interplanetary torture.
